Ask for a proposal that separates major assumptions from guaranteed scope. That does not make it a poor quote, but those items need to be visible before you make a budgeting decision.

The financial case should also account for available tax incentives, rebates, depreciation rules, and utility programs in your area. Maintenance needs depend on local dust, pollen, bird activity, weather, and the roof environment. In many cases, rainfall handles much of the cleaning. Heavy dirt buildup, industrial residue, or persistent bird droppings may justify periodic professional cleaning. Panels should not be cleaned with harsh tools or methods that could damage glass, wiring, or roof surfaces.

A maintenance plan should include production monitoring, visual inspections, electrical checks when appropriate, and a clear service contact if alerts occur. It is also worth confirming the warranties for panels, inverters, workmanship, and roof penetrations before the project begins.

Choose a Contractor That Can Explain the Numbers

The best solar contractor is not the one who makes the biggest savings claim. It is the one that can explain how the estimate was produced, what assumptions were used, and what could change after engineering or utility review.

Ask how the contractor handles site surveys, structural assessment, permits, utility coordination, installation, monitoring, and ongoing service. You want one accountable team from planning through maintenance, not a project that becomes your job to coordinate.
